Something different today– our family vacation to Hawaii! (Only, like, three months later… it’s fine. Am I the only photographer that always seems to push their personal photos to the bottom of the to-do list?) If beautiful places and travel aren’t your jam, you may want to skip today’s post 😉 First of all, I should just say that I always try to keep my colors true-to-life, and that was especially true with these! So when something looks unreal-green… it REALLY was. In fact, it took a lot of self control to not tone them down too much while post processing.
We spent two magical weeks in Hawaii with my parents, so without further adieu, let’s start with some magical Maui sunsets!
If you visit Maui, definitely take a whole day to do the Road to Hana. Here are a few places we stopped, starting with The Garden of Eden Arboretum- gorgeous views and vegetation! :
Lava formations, lava tubes, and black rock beach (hurts your feet, but cool and different, so we had to stop and play):
Hidden waterfalls to swim in. A Hawaii bucket list item, in my opinion!
Another day, we went to a lavender farm up on the mountainside. It was not lavender season, but still sooo beautiful with amazing views.
Above: Turtle Beach- we got to see one swim up, and several basking in the sun. Below: Mt. Haleakala summit sunset. Unbelievable… and unbelievably cold! Maui was in the 80’s, but the summit was 40 degrees! We did not pack accordingly…
Sooooo windy and cold!
Once the sun set on the summit, we could see the Milky Way! You have to do a long exposure to take a photo like this, so you really need a tripod to get a crisp photo. I put my camera on the ground and held it down, but between the crazy wind and me shivering, this is the clearest one I could get. Still so pretty!
We went to a luau to kick of Kauai. Super touristy but always fun. Please notice Emery’s whale tattoo she got from the Maui Ocean Center. She was so proud.
We loved slow mornings in Kauai on our porch (lanai?):
Quite possibly my favorite photo from this whole trip. Catching a toddler kiss on camera is like spotting a snow leopard in the wild.
We loved the beach style pool at The Point at Poipu! Abe did too. Ignore the face.
Even the storms are beautiful in Kauai!
Other highlights include watching the sunrise on the beach in Maui, golfing (for cheap!) at a municipal course in Kauai, and doing sessions for my parents and the Denissiouks. If you’re going to Hawaii any time soon, reach out! I love to give recommendations!

Thank you! It was fun to reminisce 🙂
